We have temporarily suspended shipments to the UK. We hope to start again soon!
Many Italians go to England every year to study or work. Among the most popular destinations are certainly London, where currently live about 600,000 Italian expats. Surely Brexit will have an impact on the choice of many to move to live in the UK. However, if despite the political ups and downs, you plan to venture here in search of opportunities you will have to deal with the lack of Italian products in England.
Among the main British supermarket chains we certainly find Tesco, the undisputed leader of the British supermarkets since 1995. Here the variety of products is immense, but beyond the most famous Italian products you won’t find much. If you go to Marks and Spencer, with 450 stores in the UK, you’ll have a few more chances, but watch out for the prices! Other famous chains to look around for Italian products in the UK are Sainsbury`s, Morrison, Somerfield or Waitrose.
Italian products hard to find in England
Among the most difficult Italian products to find in England we certainly find the breakfast biscuits. We Italians are quite used to breakfast and not having the biscuit we are fond of is a great suffering.
But even on snacks it is not easy to live abroad. Most supermarkets offer international brands such as Pringles and Lays on crisps. Even if in Italy we are all foreigners and great fans of American fries, when we are abroad, after a while, they become boring. Renouncing the great classic Italian fries is not easy at all!
Finally what about the pasta. Definitely accessible now in all English supermarkets. At least as far as Barilla and De Cecco are concerned. But do we want to put the infinite number of cuts available in Italian supermarkets?! Fettuccine, pappardelle, orecchiette, stelline, tortiglioni, half sleeves, trofie… We could go on forever.
In short, the list of Italian products not found in England can be very wide, especially considering the variety that characterizes Italian cuisine.
